Working prototype

A practical view of a complex information space.

The challenge

The deployment of 5G infrastructure in the Netherlands was accompanied by misleading claims circulating on social media. Public institutions needed ways to examine the content and understand how it spread.

What Zephyros did

In 2021, Zephyros Solutions won a tender from the Province of Zuid-Holland concerning the analysis and mitigation of disinformation around 5G deployment. Project Heimdall explored tools for social-media analysis and monitoring in collaboration with the Province and WorldStartup.

Technical approach

The prototype combined Transformer-based language models with network and graph analysis. A modified BERT model compared social-media content with reference material, while network analysis examined connections and patterns of circulation. The monitoring interface brought together sentiment, keywords and information-reliability indicators.

Outcome

The project produced a research prototype for examining misinformation through both language and network structure. The public code repository provides a technical reference for the work.
